Clean Power Published on  March 24th, 2013 |  by Zachary Shahan 11 India’s Solar Canals Reposted from Solar Love : I recently ran across this awesome image  from Greenpeace International  over on Google+: Luckily, the Google+ share also included a link to an Indian business site that had more details.  The Hindu Business Line  writes : Close on heels of commencing use of wastelands in northern districts and rooftops in towns and cities, Gujarat is set to potentially use the existing 19,000 km-long network of Narmada canals across the State for setting up solar panels to generate power. The Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, will inaugurate the first of a series of this project, known as Canal Solar Power Project, when he launches a 1 megawatt (mw) pilot project, which is already commissioned, on Narmada branch canal near Chandrasan village of Kadi taluka in Mehsana district on Tuesday.   However, this can’t be new, since the date on the article is April 23 (no y

World’s first floating nuclear power plant to begin operating in Russia in 2016

Image
In three years, Russia will have the world’s first floating nuclear power plant, capable of providing energy and heat to hard-to-get areas as well as drinking water to arid regions. The unique vessel should be operational by 2016, the general director of Russia’s biggest shipbuilders, the Baltic Plant, Aleksandr Voznesensky told reporters at the 6th International Naval Show in St. Petersburg. The Akademik Lomonosov is to become the spearhead of a series of floating nuclear power plants, which Russia plans to put into mass-production. The floating power-generating unit, aimed at providing energy to large industrial enterprises, port cities and offshore gas and oil-extracting platforms, was designed on the basis of nuclear reactors which are equipped on the icebreakers ships. The technology has proved itself for over 50 years of successful operation in extreme Arctic conditions. The floating power plant is a vessel with a displacement of 21,500 tons and a crew of 69 pe

Give Your Bread Machine Another Chance

Image
by James H. Byrd 1. Here's a bread machine that makes dough better than it makes bread. 2. When the dough is ready, dust the cutting board with a light layer of flour. 3. Spray the baking pan with oil (optional). 4. Sprinkle fine corn meal onto the oil (optional). 5. Press air bubbles out of the dough. 6. Roll and tuck the dough into a loaf shape. Cut off a chunk for rolls if there is too much for the loaf pan. 7. Put your loaf and rolls into the baking pans, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise. 8. After the dough has risen, it is ready to go into the oven. 9. When the bread is baked, cool it on a wire rack. When you first acquired that shiny new bread machine, you had visions of homemade bread smells wafting through your home, and you imagined biting into a soft, warm slice of freshly baked bread with butter melting into the top. You couldn't wait to load up the machine with ingredients and hit the "On" button. Then you made your

How to grow pineapples

Image
Pineapples are both delicious and beautiful. They can also make a magnificent plant for you to enjoy, view, and harvest for years to come. Here's how to turn your store-bought pineapple into a thriving plant! Edit Steps 1 Obtain a pineapple with firm, green leaves (not yellow or brown) . The fruit skin should be golden brown. Make sure it's not overripe by gently tugging on the leaves. If it pops right off, the pineapple is too ripe for this purpose. Make sure that there are no scale insects (they look like small grayish spots) at the base of the leaves. 2 Cut off the crown and strip some of the lower leaves so that the stem is exposed . Trim any fruit flesh without damaging the stem (that flesh could rot your plant later). 3 Turn it upside down and let it dry for about a week so that the cut end and the leaf scars can harden . 4 Put the crown in a glass of water until the roots start growin
